hes returning, go away... go away

i just had a couple of fruit loops and an attempt to do some readings, of which i only covered about five to six pages. which had me wondering, what am i going to do with my life. seriously...
i mean like when i graduate, what am i going to work as. just as much as im beginning to dislike the course of study which im in at the moment. so how now brown cow. how...

schools started and soon it would be graduation. feels like the fastest of my studying life. and my camera is giving me problems at the moment. refusing to download the pictures, time to get a new one! so thus far. bouldermania which i very much underperformed, but its ok. and driving which is tomorrow, crossing fingers. ok very jumbled thoughts.

rule #32: enjoy the small things

dont you always have something to say and then forget about it the next day and wished you penned it down, cause it might be ridiculously funny or absurd. like something i heard today from emmas doctor. even owning a dog needs a license. wtf

so i was really busy these few days - christmas, boxing day. attending gatherings, exchanging gifts and stuffing myself though i was a turkey. but anyway, this years christmas seemed more, memorable. i was quite happy that i was remembered by others. guess im really picking up and moving and hes leaving.

i stood beside you that day, shoulder to shoulder, and everything seemed so clear to me. how you are important, how things were beautiful. i felt that everything was normal again, not taken away by he. i shall try to keep it this way.

he sat on the fence, facing the basement on one end, and his room behind him. deciding, feeling which would pull him, towards safety or down. probably a sense of liberation, probably. there were so many things to live for, yet he was unable to put them into perspective. somehow they were all overshadowed, blind sided. all he needed was someone to rescue him, to give him a hand and say, my son, my friend, my brother, take my hand and step back into safety. i am going to walk this journey with you, till you find yourself again. till you know that life is worth the living.

putting down his toothbrush, spitting out the paste, rinsing his mouth, and looking up into the mirror. he sees nothing in the reflection except for the tiles behind him, was he invisible. no, he wasnt. he just didnt know who he was, what hes like, needs, desire, purpose. all was lost, he needed to find himself.

and the end of 2208

well its the end of the road for this module. glad that after this massive post everything would be over. this module, kaput. the many hours at the printing store gone. the fares spent on taxis over. and along the resentment and feelings of being unappreciated.

anyways, ive done up my port folio which im pretty glad of. took into account the points and suggestions of my peers and TA. i've used idea of typewriters for my port folio, cause i was inspired by the font "typewriter from hell" which i downloaded off the web.

so heres my port folio, in a sense my master piece after 13 weeks.

ok here's my design for the post card.
the letters infront read "MF" well, i thought it would be attention grabbing because "MF" has other connotations. but anyway, over here it means music festival. so downsides are that the letters are too frail, making it hard to read. colour schemes were too little and difficult to associated the colour to the genre of music. other than that, the layout of the words seemed ok to some.

flipping to the back of the card. the words are too big, hence leaving little space for people to write on it. lack of nus logo. could be better improved. sure can do. =)

last minute work sucks. pun intended.

ok what you see above is and is going to be "was" my design for my active aging poster. well i wanted to work on the idea of "6 wellness" of active aging and bank on the colours to attract peoples interest to check the poster out. but it seemed that only the large numeral 6 was able to grasp peoples attention. and the colour had little meaning. and adding the little men and women didnt help add to the meaning of the poster. so end of the day, it was pretty much trashy. means i have start over on this one.

go snap eight pictures and tell a story, with or without a twist. just had the idea of twisting the photo which shows the twist.

ok so you have it. generally people understand the storyline but not the twist, which is throwing the toy back to the dog after it has been fixed. its like why bother, just leave the toy to rot. so a suggestion would be that i rearranged the time line of the story - putting the end first and vice versa. i might just do that or change the pictures, but i feel that because the printouts were small, people were unable to see the expression of the cat. which is shown by the mouth by the way. or maybe a proper title would suffice, which i lacked, which would aid in conveying the story, but wouldnt that speak ill of my story telling skills?

last weeks assignment was to take a picture off the net or go take your own and do an abstraction of it, wait or make a sign out of it, something like that. so i conveniently ripped a picture of the singapore flyer off the net, and TA DAH, assignment two.



so i brought it to class on monday, half prepared to be torn down, because of the half hearted work i put in. theres like this thing where everyone thinks their own work is damn good, until, until they get criticized or see something which is better than theirs. oh well, i still think mines good, who are they to judge.

so points noted during class:
1. the abstractions were becoming abstract too quickly, in the sense where each abstraction seemed very similar to the previous one.

2. based on point 1, go remove either of the similar ones and make a more complex version of the complex one, which is take the first abstraction and make it less abstract/more detailed.

3. 15 centimeters for the longest side.

this is and abrupt ending.

ok whipped out the camera and colour pencils and did up my previous two chicken scratchings.

and voila! but this is not the end here comes the stuff i could improve on

1. i need to add a background for both my pictures, to make it nicer so i can score better
2. i need to remove the daryl in the typography because people are supposed to see my name throught the concepts.
3. the "y" of the climbing picture seems to be a little more fragile, and i mean too thin as compared to the rest of the pictures.
4. same goes for the "r" in the candy, not quite clear, thus need to refine the design.

guess this goes for now. prolly have to go for consultation etce etc and start working on the port folio and the assignment for week 5.

i think the NUS save earth thingy should NOT put all LTs at 25 or 26 degrees celsius. its too damn hot, which makes me figity and not want to listen.

finally gotten down to blogging my work, or rather doing my work as well. Doesnt mean that i've been slacking. So im supposed to have two concepts each with four different designs totalling eight thumbnails in all, that is eight designs.

so ive choosen this two concepts

1. "My name is Daryl and i love Rock Climbing"
2. "My name is Daryl and i love Sweet Things"

well the second one doesnt really apply to me cause i wanted photography but sweet things just seem easier to do, but everyone has this idea! how to stand out. hmmmm. did i mention that i have three projects this semester and weekly 2208 assignments. im so going to die.
anyways, drawing out FOUR thumbnails for ONE concept proved slightly difficult because eventually you, i, will run out of things! for example, there are so many things in rock climbing which you can incorporate into a single drawing. ok just see the picture below.



first there is rope doing a cursive of my name, second are the essentials of basic climbing. i attempted to draw rocks/mountains/mountains with rivers and lastly i have the different moves which one can do in climbing. at one am the body just refuses to draw properly.

here we have the sweet stuff.



theres only one design, i conveniently left my sketches in class cause i have to choing off to the toilet to relieve a near bursting bladder.

heres my chicken scratchings from lecture. chicken scratchings because my boss once told me that you have an idea, you do your chicken scratchings first then pass it to the art director to pass to his minions to draw out your concept.
